Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has Tweeted that he "hopes to play" for new one-day captain Eoin Morgan.

Morgan was named as the stand-in skipper after the ECB decided to axe Alastair Cook on Friday, following the 5-2 One Day International series defeat to Sri Lanka.

The Dublin-born batsman will lead England for the series against Australia in early January.

Pietersen, who scored 66 runs off 46 balls in his debut for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash on Thursday has not played for England since the doomed Ashes tour last winter.

In his autobiography he seemed to burn bridges with the ECB and a number of players, but took to Twitter to hint that he may want a return to the international set-up.
