Amy Schumer explains her bizarre fall in front of Kim Kardashian at the Time 100 ceremony
Kim and Kanye didn't look especially impressed with her stunt
Actress and comedian Amy Schumer has explained her bizarre behaviour at the Time 100 ceremony in April, where she made headlines for falling flat on her face in front of Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West on the red carpet.
Schumer, the star of upcoming comedy film Trainwreck and stand-up comic, explained herself when she took her place on the couch on The Graham Norton Show, due to air on BBC1 tonight.
Videos and photos taken at the ceremony show the unusual incident, in which Kim and Kanye pose effortlessly for the cameras before seeing Schumer noisily fall down in front of them.
Looking distinctly nonplussed, the couple then hastily walk away, as Schumer profusely apologises.
As she says on the show (and as you could guess from watching the video), the fall was entirely intentional.
She said: "I was invited to one of the Time 100 most influential people even though no one here has heard of me!"
"I was on the red carpet doing interviews and the journalists were looking past me to see if someone more important was behind me."
"So all the reporters went crazy for Kim and Kanye and I've always thought falling over was the funniest thing, so I took a dive in front of them. I couldn't help myself."
"They didn't crack a smile which confirms they had no idea who I was, which is a relief!"
Schumer appeared on the Time 100, an annual list of the most influential people in the world, compiled by Time magazine. Schumer is listed under the 'artists' section.
Other famous names on the list included Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Bradley Cooper, Emma Watson, and of course, both Kim and Kanye.
Schumer's latest film, Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow, will be released on 17 July.
Comedians say the most controversial things
Show all 11Speaking about the film, she said: "“I wrote it but not originally for myself. I thought they would get some beautiful actress in, but they asked me to do it as long as I did three things – be myself, have fun, and stop eating food!"
Alongside Schumer on tonight's Graham Norton Show will be Samuel L Jackson and Stephen Merchant, and rock band Muse.
