Liverpool drew a crucial away game to Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets thanks to a goalkeeping error and a late goal from a corner.

Simon Mignolet got Brendan Rodgers' team off to the worst possible start when he fumbled a tame effort straight into the path of Dani Abalo, who prodded home.

But the Reds responded well, Rickie Lambert - Liverpool's most impressive performer in Sofia - capitalising on a defensive error to make it 1-1 almost immediately.

Liverpool then went in front when Raheem Sterling sent over a brilliant pass into the path of Jordan Henderson, and the Reds should have made it 3-1 when Steven Gerrard put Sterling through.

However, the young England winner hit his shot straight at the keeper.

Ludogorets piled on the pressure in the final quarter of the game and were rightly rewarded when Georgi Terziev headed home from a corner.

Liverpool now must beat Basel to qualify for the knockout stages.
