Kameha Grand

Set to open in March 2015, the Kameha Grand has been billed as an "international lifestyle hotel", which will feature neo-Baroque interiors overseen by Marcel Wanders. The hotel will have 245 rooms, including 11 suites – all of which have been designed by visual artist Michael Najjar. The Poker Face Suite features a roulette table and Kameha poker cards, while the Serenity Suite promises light and airy interiors and comes complete with yoga accessories and scented candles. It's part of the Glattpark development, that's set to create a new suburb on the north-east fringes of the city by 2020.

Dolder Grand

For a magnificent view of Zurich, choose the Dolder Grand. It is located on Adlisberg Hill, providing panoramic views over the city, the lake and the snowy peaks of the Alps. The hotel originally opened as a health spa in the late 19th-century before reopening as a high-end hotel for the well-heeled. Now a luxury spa hotel once again, it has 176 rooms and suites, along with an extensive art collection. The spa has 18 treatment rooms, an aqua zone, and a medical wellness centre.

Baur au Lac

The Baur au Lac is something of a celebrity favourite, having welcomed the likes of Michael Jackson, Elton John and Barbra Streisand. It opened in 1844 and, to this day, the A-list flock to the hotel for the stunning views and close proximity to Zurich's picturesque lake and famous shopping promenade, Bahnhofstrasse. The rooms are all decorated in different styles such as Art Deco and English Regency and the hotel includes a members-only nightclub and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

B2 Boutique Hotel + Spa

This former brewery combines its industrial heritage with modern luxury. The roof and storage vaults have been transformed into spa treatment areas, and the hotel's 51 rooms and nine suites are all decorated in contemporary style. The Wine Library, home to 33,000 books as well as beer-bottle chandeliers, has a lengthy list of local Zurich wines, and a snack menu from which guests can order 24 hours a day. Don't miss a dip in the rooftop pool, with views over the city.

Hotel du Theatre

This property was the brainchild of architect Giovanni Zamboni, who in the 1950s set out to combine a small hotel with a theatre. At one time the hotel even had its own stage, and although the theatre still exists today, it has been transformed into a cinema. A dramatic theme runs through the hotel, with carpets decorated with lines from films and plays. The hotel also has a collection of audiobooks for guests to listen to, including radio plays, dramas, poetry, erotica and philosophy.

Eden au Lac

The five-star Eden au Lac was built in 1909 and is listed as a protected monument. It is situated on Lake Zurich and most rooms include a balcony or terrace, giving guests great views of the lake, city and mountains, although even better vistas can be found on the roof terrace in the Sky Bar. The 50 rooms and suites have been designed to reflect the hotel's original Art Nouveau style, and the suites come equipped with binoculars for people-watching from the balcony.
