Madonna started a gig an hour late and then insulted her fans by calling them “diva b***es”.

The pop star performed a sell-out concert at the Manchester Arena on Monday night, but complications delayed the show and it ran on until around 11.30pm.

According to fans on Twitter, the US singer was met with loud boos for her lack of punctuality. Some said attempts were made to drown them out by turning up the music.

And then, when Madonna finally arrived on stage she launched into an emotional tirade, telling the expectant crowd: “The video crashed. We had no video and we had to wait until we could reboot.

"No selfish diva b**** reason. If you diva b****es want to keep complaining about it don't come to my show.”

MEN says that some concert-goers had even walked out on the Queen of Pop, despite an announcement, albeit an apparently untimely one, which said the situation was “beyond the artist’s control”.

Plenty of people at the venue took to Twitter to proclaim their anger at the late running.

“Nearly £100 per ticket to watch Madonna in these seats tonight," complained Tony Robinson. "My mate’s not happy. That’s disgusting.”

Doors to the Manchester Arena, which holds 22,000 people, opened at 6.30pm and Madonna was scheduled to start her Rebel Hearts Tour performance at 9pm.

She arrived onstage shortly after 10pm.
