Game of Thrones fans have been given some hints on what to expect in episodes four to eight of season five after HBO shared the official titles and synopses.

Viewers who also read George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series on which the fantasy show is based will likely recognise some meaning behind the upcoming episode names.

Next Sunday’s episode four is called “Sons of the Harpy”, with the synopsis warning of The Faith Militant growing “increasingly aggressive”, Jaime and Bronn heading south and Ellaria and the Sand Snakes vowing vengeance.

“You must choose Doran’s way and peace, or my way and war”, Ellaria says menacingly in the preview clip, before Cersei reveals “a great sinner in our very midst”.

Jon Snow looks set to be the focus of episode five, “Kill the Boy”, taken from the quote “Kill the boy and let the man be born”. Master Aemon said this to Jon when he became Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch in fifth book A Dance with Dragons.

“Dany makes a difficult decision in Meereen. Jon recruits the help of an unexpected ally. Brienne searches for Sansa. Theon remains under Ramsay’s control,” the synopsis reads. Could this episode feature the scene Sophie Turner says will be more shocking than the Red Wedding?

Episode six is titled “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” after the words of House Martell of Dorne. Arya will be busy training while Jorah and Tyrion run into slavers. Lovebirds Trystane and Myrcella “make plans” and Jamie and Bronn arrive at their destination. Then, the Sand Snakes attack…

Jon Snow is preparing for conflict in episode seven, “The Gift”, possibly named after the Gift of the Many-Faced God. Sansa is trying to talk to Theon and Brienne waiting for a sign. Jaime is attempting to “reconnect” with his family and Stannis “remains stubborn”.

Then comes episode eight, the last one we officially know something about at this stage. “Hardhome” will see Arya progress with her training, Sansa confront an old friend, Cersei struggle and Jon travel. Expect the lead-up to a big battle scene in this one.
