Random acts of kindness and actually interacting with someone on public transport aren't dead, at least not on the 341 bus in British Colombia, where a Muslim man donated his shoes to a needy fellow bus rider and walked barefoot home.

A man was sitting with nothing but two plastic hairnets covering his feet when the good Samaritan approached him, promptly removed his shoes and gave them to the man before exiting the bus and walking barefoot home.

"It made my heart melt," bus driver Surjit Singh Virk told QMI Agency. "He just took his shoes and socks off and said, 'You can take these, don't worry about me — I live close by and can walk."

The man wasn't seeking praise either, asking the news agency not to identify him as his Muslim faith teaches that charitable acts should be anonymous.

The 27-year-old did confirm that he is a resident of Surrey, British Columbia in Canada and was on the way home from a nearby mosque when he helped out the man.

Photos of the two passengers were posted on Facebook, receiving hundreds of Likes.

"We are all one family, if anyone in our family was without shoes and we had ample, this is exactly what we would do. Once in a while we need this reminder to save our humanity," one user Baljit Sabharwal commented.

Random acts of kindness have a habit of warming the cockles of Facebook and Twitter users, as was the case with the 'Find Mike' campaign earlier in the year that sought to reunite a formerly-suicidal man with the pedestrian that persuaded him not to take his own life.
