Sir Alex Ferguson: 'I got annoyed when Manchester United lost to Liverpool last year'

Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he "got annoyed" when the club lost to Liverpool under David Moyes last season.

United struggled through the 2013-14 campaign, their first in 27 years without the Scot at the helm, eventually sacking Moyes and finishing outside the European places in seventh.

Liverpool, who came close to winning the Premier League in a brilliant campaign under Brendan Rodgers, did the double over bitter rivals United, winning 1-0 at Anfield and 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The lost season also saw defeat to neighbours Manchester City, who eventually won the title, in Moyes' final weeks in charge.

Ferguson, who won 13 titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, the Club World Cup twice and the Champions League twice in 27 years at Old Trafford, admitted the results had left him annoyed.

"I got annoyed when we lost to Liverpool last year," he told told presenter Jim Rosenthal in an exclusive interview with the club’s in-house channel, MUTV.

"I didn’t enjoy that. I don’t like losing to Liverpool and Manchester City last year, because they are your biggest rivals and the ones you always strive to defeat and are always in our way. Particularly Liverpool of course.

"The way I’ve always been and I did it as a manager, I’m actually quite stone-faced watching a game. I don’t try to show any emotions unless we score. I always celebrate a goal, even now as a director I still celebrate a goal.

"You’re always conscious maybe the cameras are on you and this is happening quite a lot."
