In the run-up to shooting the sequel to Kingsman, titled The Golden Circle, rumours were spreading like wildfire that Elton John would be appearing in the film.

Those rumours have been proven true, as the Rocket Man confirmed he will be appearing in the film through his Instagram account, posting a parody poster featuring Union Jack glasses and the phrase "Wednesday night's alright for fighting”, a reference to his song “Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)”.

Alongside the poster was the caption “It's been a long time since Tommy”, the 1975 film being John's last appearance on the big screen in a non-cameo role (playing the Pinball Wizard).

Earlier this week, the first images of Channing Tatum in The Golden Circle leaked online following filming in London. The actor is presumed to be playing a US spy, as the film see’s Taron Egerton’s Eggsy travelling state-side, presumably helping the CIA - the head of which will be played by Halle Berry.

Little is known about the film’s plot, although it has been hinted that Colin Firth’s character will likely return while Mark Strong will be back as Merlin.

Other additions to the cast include Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal as a character called Jack Daniels. Julianne Moore is also said to be in talks to play the villain and Elton John is rumoured to have a cameo.

Kingsman: The Secret Service was an unexpected box office hit, grossing $412.4 million worldwide on a budget of $81 million. The sequel is set to arrive in UK cinemas on 16 June 2017.
