James Bond: Mexico City to hold first Day of the Dead parade thanks to Spectre

The city will use 'the props and the wardrobe of the well-known film'

Upon its release, Spectre was heralded as one of the best James Bond films to date, various publications awarding Daniel Craig's fourth outing as 007 five stars.

The film’s stand-out moment was the opening scene in which Bond casually strolls through a Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City before, changing into a suit and pursuing his targets.

Despite the utterly ridiculous helicopter fight, perhaps the most unbelievable part of the entire scene was a Day of the Dead parade even happening in Mexico City, because no such procession has ever taken place in the city before.

Inspired by the film, officials have decided to host a similar parade, on 29 October, that will start at the Angel of Independence and finish at the historic Zocalo square.

According to a statement, picked up by AFP, hundreds of volunteers will help bring the event to life, using “the props and the wardrobe of the well-known film Spectre”.

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday, celebrated throughout the country, in which friends and family gather to remember those the have lost.

Recently, when talking about returning to the James Bond series, Craig has seemed surprisingly optimist, telling fans in New York: “I’ve got the best job in the world doing Bond.”

Whether he will return remains unconfirmed, a list of eight potential replacements having leaked from Sony earlier this year.
