Welcome to The Independent's live coverage of today's Premier League encounter between Manchester City and Southampton, with Pep Guardiola already under pressure after a run of four matches without a win and a heavy 4-0 defeat by Barcelona in midweek.

Guardiola's decision to drop star striker Sergio Aguero has been widely criticised, and it remains to be seen if the Spaniard decides to recall him to the starting line-up for the visit of Southampton. City and an injury crisis of sorts at the back, with both right-backs in Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta injured. It means that John Stones could move to full-back to accommodate returning captain Vincent Kompany, although Guardiola could also choose to deploy Aleksandr Kolarov on the right.

Saints, who have won three of their last four Premier League outings, also have injury concerns at the back with full-backs Ryan Bertrand, Matt Targett and Cedric Soares all facing late fitness tests to see if they will feature.

The match kicks off at 13:30 BST, but we'll bring you all the build up to the match including the teams as they are announced an hour before kick-off.

Southampton have lost six consecutive fixtures at the Etihad, but with more points under their belt than their opponents in 2016, can today be the day for Puel's men?

Only time will tell.

After being left out for the midweek fixture, the Belgian defender is set to make his first appearance in the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

A draw today is enough for City to top the table, but is it enough to regain the confidence that the club needs following a run of poor form - they certainly have a point to prove.

Southampton enter the clash sitting 8th in the table, but a win today could take them up to 6th. A quick start from Claude Puel's men will be vital to make sure that they get what they deserve from the fixture.

There's just half an hour until kick-off now, don't go anywhere...

An attacking start from the home side, with Kompany instantly trying to bring Aguero into the game with a long, over the top ball.

The Argentinian striker certainly has a job to do and a point to prove today.

City's skipper finds the gap and strings a ball up to Silva on the wing, but the attack is dealt with. The Belgian defender carries an immense presence when on the pitch, so a top performance from him today will be vital.

It's been a fairly lethargic start to the game for both clubs, with Forster and Bravo untested so far. The midfield battle continues, but neither side can convert in the final third.

A corner for The Saints is easily headed away by Kolarov - yet another wasted set piece.

GOAL

MANCHESTER CITY 0 - 1 SOUTHAMPTON

It's a defensive calamity from the home side, as Stones sells Bravo short with the back pass. Redmond takes full advantage of the mistake, as he pounces and intercepts the pass, skips past Bravo and cleverly tucks the ball into the back of net.

The term 'hospital ball' springs to mind from Stones there. It's poor. Nonetheless, we have to give credit to Redmond.

Game on!
