Waitrose is recalling four varieties of own-brand chocolate over fears that the bars could contain small pieces of plastic.
The Food Standards Agency on Wednesday said that it was recalling all batch codes of 85g bars of Waitrose own-brand plain white chocolate, white chocolate with matcha tea and pistachio, milk chocolate with pistachio, almond and hazelnut, and milk chocolate with feuilletine and sea salt.
The affected products all have a best before date of July 2018 and Waitrose said that no other products that it sells were affected by the recall.
The FSA said that the recall was based on fears that the bars may contain pieces of plastic which could represent a safety risk.
It said that anyone who has bought a bar of the affected chocolate should not eat it and return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the chocolate bars, the FSA said.
