Madonna: Women voted for Donald Trump because they hate women

'Women’s nature is not to support other women. It’s really sad'

Madonna’s reflections on the outcome of the US presidential election arrive at a stark conclusion: men look out for each other, but, fundamentally, women hate women.

The 42 per cent of female voters who walked into polling booths and chose Mr Trump were, for many, the hardest to process after his lewd, sexist and obscene comments and the accusations of sexual assault levelled against him, which he denied.

But the reason for this was simple for Madonna, who sounded uncharacteristically defeated when she spoke to Billboard about the result. “Women hate women. That’s what I think it is. Women’s nature is not to support other women. It’s really sad. Men protect each other, and women protect their men and children. Women turn inward and men are more external. A lot of it has do with jealousy and some sort of tribal inability to accept that one of their kind could lead a nation.”

The iconic singer was one of a number of high-profile voices to issue grim last minute warnings after polls began suggesting the prospect of a Trump administration was not as absurd as it once seemed.

Madonna compared her heartbreak over the election victory to suffering a bereavement, saying she has not had a fitful night’s sleep since. She also said her devastation over the results and her objections to Mr Trump had got her into a few arguments with people she knew who did vote for him.

Her outlook was bleak and one that is becoming increasingly familiar: “We’re f**ked”.

“We live in a country that’s run by bankers. In a way, it makes sense that Donald Trump is the president. Because money rules. Not intelligence, not experience, not a moral compass, not the ability to make wise decisions, not the ability to think of the future of the human race.”
