A 29-year old Brit has been arrested in connection with a cyber-attack that affected nearly a million Deutsche Telekom customers back in November.
The UK’s National Crime Agency arrested the suspect at one of London ’s airports on Wednesday, Reuters reported, citing German police. Last year’s attack on Germany’s largest telecommunications company reportedly led to internet outages for up to 900,000 users.
The latest development comes amid a slew of warnings from experts that the UK is tackling a cyber-security skills gap that is threatening to become worse in coming years as hackers become increasingly sophisticated and ambitious.
Earlier this month, a survey of almost 20,000 security professionals across banks, governments and multinationals, conducted by (ISC)² – a non-profit organisation that aims to educate people about the risks of being online – showed that Britain is teetering on a “cliff edge” when it comes to having the ability to protect itself against cyber crime.
Lloyds Banking Group said in January that it was working with law enforcement agencies to identify who was behind a cyber-attack that caused its personal banking website to suffer temporary outages earlier in the year .
