A 70-year-old woman has broken her silence after being "body-shamed" on Snapchat by a former Playboy model who was spared jail for invading her privacy.

The woman, who has not been named, was humiliated by thousands of social media users when Dani Mathers shared an unflattering photograph of her showering in an Los Angeles gym in July 2016.

The ex-Playmate put her hand over her mouth as if to suppress laughter in the viral post, which showed the unsuspecting victim completely naked with the caption: "If I can't unsee this then you can't either."

Ms Mathers pleaded no contest to invasion of privacy charges in May and was ordered to carry out 30 days of community service during a three-year probation period.

The elderly woman expressed her wish to put the "painful chapter" behind her through her attorney Mike Feuer, who spoke to the Los Angeles Times following the sentencing.

He said: "She wishes the whole chapter, this painful chapter, would close — the impact of the photograph being taken and disseminated and what that’s meant to her as well as what it’s meant to hear that Ms. Mathers be held accountable for what she did.

“I spoke to her myself a day or two after the conclusion of the Mathers case.

“I wanted to get the sense from her directly what she was feeling at that moment, and it was a very poignant conversation. She has been humiliated.

'Body shaming is wrong' Dani Mathers makes public apology on snapchat

“Body shaming is inhumane. And it tears down the victim’s self-respect. It has devastating consequences.”

Mr Feuer revealed his client had sought just $60 (£47) in compensation so she could buy a new backpack.

Ms Maher insisted she didn't mean to share the picture during a tearful interview with Good Morning America earlier this month.

“It’s taught me a lot about privacy,” she said. “I’ve lost a lot of that myself as well. We’ve had a lot of paparazzi involved in my family life. I had my privacy taken away after I took someone else’s.”
