The brother of Pablo Escobar warned that Netflix should change its security protocol after a location scout was shot dead in Mexico.

Carlos Muñoz Portal's body was discovered, along with his car, in a remote area near San Bartolo Actopan, which is reported to have some of Mexico's highest murder rates.

Muñoz was a seasoned professional and had worked on the likes of James Bond film Spectre, Sicario, and Fast & Furious.

His death has reportedly raised concerns over whether production will continue in Mexico or move back to Colombia.

Since news of his killing emerged, Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, 71, has called on Netflix to avoid using Mexico and Colombia as shooting locations "without authorisation from Escobar Inc".

"It is very dangerous," he told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview. "Especially without our blessing. This is my country."

Gaviria, former "chief of the hitmen", also said he thought Netflix should also take further security measures to protect its Narcos crew.

"You have to eliminate all threats," he said. "If you have the intellect, you don't need to use weapons. If not, you have to. In this case, Netflix should provide hitmen to their people as security."

A statement from Netflix on Muñoz's death read: "We are aware of the apssing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family.

"The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate."
