Norman Trailer

We're getting into the fall season, which means indies aplenty are finally getting released. Here's another one from Spokane, Washington and the festival circuit last year, titled Norman, about a high school boy named Norman Long, played by Dan Byrd (seen in The Hills Have Eyes, Lonely Hearts, Easy A, "Cougar Town"), with a bleak outlook on life who is pretending to have cancer. This trailer sells it in a different way though, involving a story with his dad, played by Richard Jenkins. The cast includes Emily VanCamp, Adam Goldberg, Billy Lush and Camille Mana. This looks quite good, thought it was worth featuring today.

A troubled high-school kid named Norman pretending to have cancer deals with problems involving his new girlfriend and terminally ill father. He must confront a set of conflicting emotions as he struggles to define his relationship with his father, his love for Emily, and ultimately who he will be as a young man.

Norman was directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Jonathan Segal, a University of Pennsylvania graduate of the feature The Last Run and the short Ripple previously. The screenplay is by newcomer Talton Wingate. This premiered at the Waterfront Film Festival in Michigan last year. Norman is being released by AMC Independent in limited theaters starting October 21st. For more info, visit the official website or Facebook.

i like the relationship possibilities with his dad and the interaction between norman and his teacher could be good too - the teeny-bopper romance looks too formulaic though.......probably a rent.

I went to normanthemovie.com and their synopsis paints a better picture of this movie.  "Norman Long is a high school loner, a self-aware and darkly funny teen who’s just trying to handle his daily existence. In the wake of his mother’s sudden death, Norman must now also deal with the reality that his father is starting to lose his battle with stomach cancer. Norman, depressed and angry, unintentionally gets caught in a lie that he, in fact, has stomach cancer. Soon his complete distortion of the facts spirals out of control. Part coping mechanism, partially as a way to feel closer to his father, and to a certain degree to prepare others for his possible suicide, Norman begins to imitate his father’s debilitating physical symptoms, dramatically affecting his life and the world around him.Emily, a magnetic girl with one of those rare enchanting smiles, gets caught up in Norman’s fabrication and struggles with her deep rooted romantic feelings in the face of Norman’s “impending” death. Ultimately, Norman must confront a burning set of conflicting emotions as he struggles to define his relationship with his father, his love for Emily, and ultimately who he will be as a young man."Either way, looks like a great movie.
