Glastonbury 2014 weather update: Festival set to be balmy and dry for revellers

Hayfever sufferers may not rejoice at the thought, but for Glastonbury ticket-holders and Wimbledon fans next week’s weather is expected to at least be temperate and dry, forecasters say.

“Long spells of warm sunshine,” also this coming weekend, will underpin any plans in the south and west of the UK, bringing good news for those hosting BBQs.

Unfortunately, this weekend looks cloudy but dry for those in Scotland, with it experiencing some possible rain which may also spread to Northern Ireland.

On Monday, the thermometer looks set to reach a pleasant 23C in the south with the balmy weather expected to last – and possibly increase – despite some clouds, until the end of the week.

Laura Young, a spokeswoman for the Met Office, said: “It should be nice weather. There is some cloud, but it is going to be warm and dry. It is good news for the spectators - there is very, very little chance of rain.

“If you are playing tennis you want it slightly overcast because you don't want it too hot. In the Australian Open the trainers of the tennis players were melting because it got so hot. It would never get that hot over here, but you want slightly cooler conditions.”

It seems that the pleasant weather may well hold out for the 135,000 people planning to converge on Somerset for the famous music festival from next Wednesday onwards.

However, Ms Young said that festivalgoers should still pack their wellies as conditions may change towards the end of next weekend.

“For the most part up until [next] Friday and Saturday we are looking at dry weather.

“It might not be glorious sunshine, but it should be dry - particularly in the south west. It is looking quite good for the festival goers.”

The pollen count is "very high" today, remaining "high" for the next few days.
