Mayor quits after seating scuffle
The powerful Mayor of Yerevan, the Armenian capital, has resigned after fighting with an aide to President Serzh Sargsyan over seating at a concert by the Spanish tenor Placido Domingo.
Local media said Gagik Beglaryan beat up the presidential protocol aide Aram Kandayan a day after the concert on 3 December. Mr Kandayan had asked Mr Beglaryan's wife to change seats after she sat next to Mr Sargsyan.
The mayoral website confirmed Mr Beglaryan, a senior member of the ruling Republican Party, had resigned.
