Police have launched a crackdown on offensive clothing and "sexually explicit" inflatables on the streets of Newquay in an effort to reclaim the Cornish resort for family visitors.

Residents have demanded action over summer revellers who descend upon the town wearing T-shirts emblazoned with swear words and explicit images. Police also warned that holidaymakers who cavort in the street brandishing "inflatable toys depicting sex organs" will have the items confiscated.

Newquay has tried to shed its image as the binge-drinking capital after two teenagers died as a result of drunken nights out two years ago. Around 20 drunk and incapable under-age holidaymakers were sent home last year and 1,000 cans and bottles of alcohol confiscated.
